About Stan Bisset

Stan Bisset MC OAM MID is the oldest living Australian Rugby Union (Wallaby) player.  Hen was selected to go to play in England with the Australian Rugby Union team in 1939 but never got to play as WWII was declared the day before the team arrived.  

Stan and the team returned home where he joined the 2/14th Battalion joining his older brother Butch. 

After arriving in Papua New Guinea, Stan (a Lieutenant intelligence officer) and Butch (a Lieutenant and platoon commander) were sent up the Kokoda Track to relieve the 39th Battalion who were holding out the Japanese at Isurava.   During the battle Butch was injured in action on the Kokoda Track and passed away in Stan's arms in 1942.   Butch was buried on the Track.

On the 12th June, 2000 Stan was granted a Medal of the order of Australia for service to veterans particularly those of the 2/14th Battalion, 7th Division.   Stan is now 97 years old and living on the Sunshine Coast with his wife Gloria.

The Stan Bisset Cup

The Stan Bisset Cup is a 96km bush walking Kokoda Challenge High School Competition.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• This event starts at Mudgeeraba Village Green, Mudgeeraba on Saturday 17th July at 7am.
  More information will be provided at the briefing nights which will also become available on the competitors area of the website from Tuesday 29th June.
  

To enter a high school must register a team of 4 students, plus one adult supervisor.  All students must obtain written approval from their parent/guardian prior to competing.

This is not a relay event - all 5 team members must advance through the 14 check points along the 96km course to the finish line.

At 5 designated checkpoints teams are able to take a break and regroup with the help of their support crew.

The course is tough and training is essential. 

In 2010, each team isrequired to pay a total $620  - comprising of a $220 non refundable registration fee and further $400 (minimum) fund raising contribution which is fully tax deductible.
