2022 BRISBANE KOKODA CHALLENGE DATE CHANGE

WHY IS THE BRISBANE EVENT BEING POSTPONED?

This decision does not come lightly, we have been working tirelessly to establish a way for you all to still walk the 18, 30 and 48km event through D’Aguilar National Park. However, with the heavy rainfall we’ve experienced in Southeast Queensland, it’s simply not feasible for the event to go ahead this weekend as planned. 

While our backup wet weather maps avoided flood affected sections of the original map, the walking tracks are still far too soft for 4x4 vehicles to access competitors in an emergency situation. We are simply not willing to compromise on your safety.

In addition, the environmental impact of 2,000 competitors walking on the soft terrain would be immense. The last thing we want to do is damage our beloved national parks.

Lastly, Brookfield and surrounding areas are experiencing flooding, this means that there would be nowhere for you to park your car, nor would there be anywhere for 48km competitors to meet their support crew.

I AM HAPPY TO PARTICIPATE ON AUGUST 13TH. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

We appreicate the endless support of our Kokoda community and cannot wait to see you in August!

All teams will be automatically transferred to the new date unless you cantact us to transfer to the Sunshine Coast event, or request a refund. Please do NOT email or call us if you want to tranfer to the new date as it is automatic. 

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT MY TEAM IS DOING?

If you wish to change to the Sunshine Coast event or want to request a refund, this must be done by 4pm, Thursday the 2nd of June. 
Requests after this date will not be accepted. 

Please note that all Brisbane entries will be automatically transferred over to the new date.
If you are happy with the new date change, please do NOT contact our team as you will have been automatically transferred. 

The Kokoda Youth Foundation relies on the stability of our competitor numbers to run our life changing youth programs. Due to this, we need to be aware of those who require refunds ASAP so we can organise the facilitation of our 2022 programs. Further, we need to know ASAP who will be transferring to the Sunshine Coast event so we are able to organise the race kits for these teams.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE THE NEW DATE? 

We understand that not all of our competitors will be able to make the new date, so we are giving teams the following options:

  1. Transfer your team to the new date. All teams will be automatically transferred to the new date unless you contact us to transfer to the Sunshine Coast event, or request a refund. Please do NOT email or call us if you want to transfer to the new date as it is automatic. 
  2. Transfer your team over to the Sunshine Coast event (please email info@kokodachallenge.comto advise).
  3. If your team is unable to work around either of these options then we can transfer your registration fee into a tax deductible donation for you to claim back at the end of the financial year (please email info@kokodachallenge.comto advise).
  4. If your team is unable to work around either of these options then we will be offering refunds on your teams registrations, cost. Please note that fundraising and donations are non-refundable for tax purposes (please email info@kokodachallenge.com to advise).

If you wish to change to the Sunshine Coast event, wish to transfer your registration fee into a tax deductible donation or want to request a refund, this must be done by 4pm, Thursday the 2nd of June.

If there are members in your team who are unable to attend but some are, we would suggest finding other friends or family to participate in their place. If you cannot find anyone to fill your team then please register for our team matching service and we will do our best to find someone to fill your team, or try posting in our Kokoda Challenge Facebook Community Group

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR KOKODA CHALLENGE PINNACLE TEAMS?

If your team is registered for The Kokoda Challenge Pinnacle, you will now be participating in the following events:

48k Sunshine Coast Kokoda Challenge

96k Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge

30k Brisbane Kokoda Challenge

We understand that there have been multiple changes to the Kokoda Challenge Pinnacle due to wet weather, therefore we are offering free entry to Army Land Training Day for all Kokoda Challenge PInnacle teams. WHEN WILL THE NEW FUNDRAISING & REGISTRATION CUT OFF DATE BE?

The new cut off date to register your team, have all your fundraising submitted and any team changes will be Friday the 15th of July , 2022. 

IS PRE-REGISTRATION/EVENT PACK COLLECTION STILL OCCURING ON FRIDAY MAY 27?

No, as some teams will be withdrawing from the event due to the date change and some new teams will be added into the event, we will need to get new race bibs printed. The new pre-registration date will be August 12. Please book in a new time slot to collect your event packs from pre-registration here. 

HOW DO I REQUEST TO TRANSFER MY REGISTRATION?

If you wish to transfer your team over to the Sunshine Coast event, please email info@kokodachallenge.com. We are expecting to receive a high volume of enquiries so please be patient while we attend to your request.

WHAT ABOUT FLIGHTS OR ACCOMMODATION WE BOOKED?

We understand that booking flights and accommodation is another part of making the event! Most providers are quite understanding about the cancellation of events due to weather and how this impacts flights and accommodation. Our team can provide a statement regarding the event cancellation if requested. 

For any flight or accommodation bookings you have made, please make sure you get in contact with the providers ASAP to reschedule.
