Walk
1. Abbotts Falls Walking Track

The trail leads to the scenic Abbotts Falls Lookout before looping back to the starting point via German Point Road. It’s an excellent walk for those looking to experience the varied flora of the forest.

2. Rock Lily Walking Track
Beginning at the Basin Camping Area, this track is a delightful journey through a deep rainforest gully. The walk features native rock lilies, geebungs, and ferns, with the path taking you past impressive rock overhangs before climbing into dry eucalypt forest. A section of the Great North Walk is included in the return, making it a rewarding loop for keen walkers.

This serene trail starts at The Pines Picnic Area and follows Dora Creek. Camp
1. Casuarina Camping Area
Located just five minutes from the Pines Forest Park, this area offers ample space for both caravans and individual campers. Nestled among forest oaks and eucalypts, Casuarina Camping Area is a peaceful spot with access to nearby walking tracks.

2. The Basin
The Basin Camping Area provides open grassy sites with a flowing creek nearby, perfect for large groups. It’s further inland, offering a quieter experience. During warmer months, the nearby creeks are great for swimming. This area is also along the Great North Walk, making it convenient for hikers.

3. The Pines Camping Area

4. Turpentine Camping Area

Picnic
1. The Pines Picnic Area
This is the most popular picnic spot in Olney State Forest, set among towering slash pines. It offers picnic tables, wood barbecues, and a covered shelter that can be reserved for exclusive use. The area is also the starting point for several walking tracks, making it a perfect location to relax before or after a hike.

2. Old Mill Picnic Area
Located alongside Watagan Forest Road, this site is ideal for family gatherings with its wide, flat grassed area perfect for sports and games. Although camping isn’t allowed, it’s a great spot for a day visit.

Mountain biking enthusiasts will find plenty of excitement in Olney State Forest. The Hunter Mountain Bike Association manages a dedicated track under a Forest Permit, offering thrilling trails through the forest. Getting to Olney State Forest
Many of the above listed tracks are on Google Maps, so it should be fairly easy to find where you want to go. We recommend driving straight to the Pines Picnic Area as this is a great place to start for many of the hikes, and it means that you can have a picnic on your return. Plus the toilets are handy, and, if you’re feeling really adventurous, you can even stay the night at the Pines Camping Area, which is nearby!
