The 48km course is typically our most popular Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge event. It is an extremely challenging and rewarding experience, especially for those who are hoping to work their way up to the full 96km track in future.
You will start at Raw Challenge in the Numinbah Valley and make your way towards Nerang Velodrome via a beautiful scenic route. In 2024, the fastest trail running team completed the entire course in 5 hours and 59 minutes. The last hiking team came in at 18 hours and 22 minutes with the average time being 12 hours and 2 minutes. Approximately 7% of people were unable to make it to the finish line and withdrew from the event, which goes to show just how tough this course really is!
Our events are usually split fairly evenly between males and females and we get an enormous rage in ages! You have to be at least 13-years-old to register for the event, but our oldest competitor is usually around 80-years-old, plus we have all ages in between!
The Kokoda Challenge Gold Coast is ultimately for people who are looking to achieve something extraordinary, who are willing to commit to fitness and elevation training, preparing a support crew to meet you along the way with nourishment and encouragement and for people who want to test just how far they can push themselves mentally and physically. We believe that nothing great happens from your comfort zone and that if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.
Not only will you be transforming the lives of local kids through your fundraising, you’ll also experience a transformation within yourself as you reflect on all the souls who sacrificed themselves for our country, especially our Kokoda Veterans who endured hell on the Kokoda Track in 1942.
The Kokoda Challenge isn’t just an event, it is an unforgettable experience that will see you bond with your teammates and prove to yourself that you are capable of so much more than you think. All you need to get you to the end is the values of the Kokoda Spirit; courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.
