About

Support our team and empower local youth!

Our team are tackling Australia’s toughest team endurance event, the Kokoda Challenge, and we need your help! We’re not just hiking for ourselves, we’re hiking for a cause – to fundraise for the Kokoda Youth Foundation who run life-changing programs for young people across Australia. Their programs provide disengaged youth with the skills, knowledge and outdoor experiences that grow the Kokoda values of Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice. They have provided these fully-funded programs to hundreds of young people since 2004, thanks to the help of Kokoda Challenge participants, like us. Your donation will help more young people realise their potential.

My Updates

2nd night training

Thursday 9th July - 2nd training night hike
Just over 1 week till we take on the 30km Kokoda Challenge
We missed the group as we was stuck in traffic, so 4 minutes late😢
But we decided to do it on our own, good practice so we have a better feel for what it will be like on the night.
Tonight we saw a small bandy bandy snake, a wallaby & just as we were nearly back at the start, an echidna 😍
He was so cute 😍
It was as scary being in the dark as I thought it would be & im getting quite excited for Kokoda now.

1st training night hike

 Tuesday 7th July
We finally did our 1st night hike!
We joined a hiking group & walked through Nerang National Park, where I usually do my daytime hikes & where Kokoda will be in just over 1 weeks time.
Our guide, Andrew was so good. He runs the group 3 nights a week, just to help people get out at night & be able to hike.
He told us if we see red eyes, they are wallabies & kangaroos
White eyes are deer 🦌
We did see all 3 plus an owl. I’ve never seen deer or owls in the wild so that was pretty awesome
He also told us about jumping spiders & how to spot all the little spiders 🕷️ n the floor. It took me roughly 30/50 minutes to figure it out 🙈They look like shiny glass beads
For someone who’s scared of the dark, I really enjoyed it & im now more confident about doing the Kokoda Challenge

Longest hike so far

I decided to try & do some of the Kokoda course, which is in reverse from how I usually go. My barings were totally off & I got lost!!
19kms & 5 hrs later, I made it back to my car!
I had strayed that far from the park map, I had to use the big map. Thankfully I had it on my phone so I could work out where I was!

Russ joined me - It rained! A lot

Russ is now doing Kokoda with me, so he joined me today. Unfortunately it was raining on & off so we cut the hike short. I would of liked to do more, but I also forgot my trail shoes!
It was a different experience than all my previous hikes as the ground was so soft & wet. Lots of run off water but it was so good. I also saw my kangaroo family again

Kokoda training Nerang

Ive done a couple on my own & its so peaceful, just me & the kangaroo family!

Kokda training Hellfire Pass

My 1st training hike & I thought this sounded cool! I said Hellfire so many times whilst walking it! Its a steep terrain, not for the feint hearted!
